Tax Information and Assistance
By law, the University of Denver is required to furnish form 1098-T each tax year to enrolled students who are US citizens or permanent residents. This form may assist you in determining eligibility for education tax credits or deductions.
Form 1098-T is sent each year to any student who had qualified tuition and related expenses charged to their account in the preceding calendar year.

The University of Denver cannot provide tax advice. Please refer to relevant IRS forms and publications or consult a tax advisor, not the University of Denver, for explanations regarding eligibility for and calculations of any allowable tax credits or deductions.
Using Form 1098-T
The information that universities are required to provide on Form 1098-T does not necessarily correspond to the information you may need to calculate any education tax credits or deductions for which you may be eligible. Universities are required to report payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses in the calendar year (Box 1).
The IRS requires universities to report on a calendar year, rather than academic year. Therefore, the amount reported in Box 1 includes any amounts billed in calendar year 2022 for Winter Quarter 2023 or Spring Semester 2023. The amount reported in Box 5 also includes any scholarships and grants credited in calendar year 2022 for Winter Quarter 2023 or Spring Semester 2023.
The IRS requires universities to reduce the amount of billed charges by any tuition waiver proceeds. If you received any type of tuition waiver during the calendar year, you will see a reduction in the amount of charges reported in Box 1.

How to View Your 1098-T Form Online
To view your 1098-T form:
- Log into DUPay
- Select the My Account | Statements | 1098-T Tax Statement
- Select the action icon next to the year you would like to see
- Select View
To view your more detailed information online:
- Log into My4D
- Select Student Resources
- Select Financial Account Management
- 1098-T tax form
- Enter the tax year to view and click Submit
The supplemental 1098-T form for the selected tax year will display. Detailed information can be viewed by scrolling down the page or clicking the amounts in the 1098-T form. You may print the form from your web browser to assist you in your tax preparation.

1098-T Form Delivery
1098-T forms are located in DUPay under My Account | Statements | 1098-T Tax Statement.
Per IRS regulations, 1098-T forms are only sent to US citizens and permanent residents. If you are not a US citizen or permanent resident, you may request a 1098-T by emailing the Bursar's Office at bursar@du.edu.
If you do not receive your 1098-T form by January 31, or if your address has changed, please contact the Bursar's Office.

Social Security Numbers
By law, you are required to provide your correct Taxpayer Identification Number (Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)) to persons who are required to file information returns with the IRS. If you fail to furnish your correct SSN or ITIN to the University of Denver, you are subject to a penalty of $50 imposed by the IRS unless your failure is due to reasonable cause and not to willful neglect. Periodic reviews will be done by the University to check for students without SSNs on file. Those students will be sent requests to submit SSN information online through PioneerWeb or to submit a completed IRS Form W-9S, Request for Student's or Borrower's Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification.
To update your SSN with the University, log into My4D, and go to the Student Resources | Financial Account Management | Update Social Security or Taxpayer ID Number.
Alternatively, you can complete and submit Form W-9S, which can be found on the IRS website, http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9s.pdf. Completed forms should be delivered to the Bursar's Office. Forms can be delivered in person, mailed via US Mail, or faxed to 303-871-4401.
