Program Directors & Supervisors

Members of the University of Denver community who interact with minors in any capacity are expected to foster and maintain a safe and secure environment for minors. Directors of University-sponsored programs or activities involving minors must take the following steps:

    Register the program or activity involving minors

    Program directors or administrators must register their program. In order to register a program or activity involving minors, please complete the online registration form. (Note that you will be required to login using a DU ID.)  Alternatively, if you are making a reservation for your program or activity in 25Live, your 25Live reservation will generate a registration for the program if you identify your event as involving minors and include detailed information about your program or activity in the Comment Field.

    Coordinate training for individuals working with minors

    Program directors or administrators are responsible for confirming that all staff working in University programs or activities with minors have received required training.  Program directors also must require that each individual working with minors review the Protection of Minors on Campus Policy and the Guidelines for Working with Minors.  Finally, Program directors must complete an Acknowledgement of Compliance.

    Coordinate background checks for relevant individuals working with minors

    Once a program director or administrator registers a program or activity using the online registration form, background check requests of program directors, supervisors, and those who regularly spend time alone with minors as part of their job responsibilities or role in a program are coordinated through Human Resources.

Requirements for Programs Sponsored by External Organizations

Third-party organizations that wish to utilize University facilities or property for youth-serving programs or activities must run their programs consistent with the guidelines of the Protection of Minors on Campus Policy.

Organizations must secure the written agreement of a Sponsoring Unit to host the program. The agreement must address:

  • Certification to the Sponsoring Unit that the screening and training requirements have been met;
  • Commitment to operate the program in accordance with the Protection of Minors on Campus Policy including mandatory training on sexual misconduct/abuse for those who will work children under the age of 18;
  • Assume full financial responsibility for any loss or liability arising from the program
  • External entities must submit a Certificate of Insurance (COI) to the Office of Risk Management. The COI must follow the Insurance Requirements located in the Forms and Resources section of this website.
