Sustainability is a core tenet of DU's long-term strategy, and we've made it an integral part of our educational approach. At DU, students have access to many courses and research opportunities related to sustainability and the social, economic and political issues that define our present discourse and shape future solutions.
Our academic approach combines rigorous classroom work and extensive experiential education. Students taking sustainability courses have opportunities to engage with the larger community to tackle the systemic issues that surround environmental issues. We're working to improve lives on and off campus, while training professionals with the knowledge and experience necessary to address the challenges of a changing climate.
Sustainability Certificates, Programs and Courses
Our cross-disciplinary educational approach brings sustainability concepts to a diverse set of programs across campus. At DU, you can take individual courses in sustainability concepts to supplement your degree, but you can also dig deeper with a minor, concentration or certificate program from one of our schools and colleges. From tackling Global Sustainable Development with the Graduate School for Social Work to the Daniel's College of Business MBA program — ranked the second-greenest program of its kind in the country — there's no shortage of ways to grow your knowledge and develop your practical skills.
Research
Students can gain valuable experience by participating in or conducting research, either independently or alongside faculty. Sustainability and the environment have become major targets of ongoing research here at DU, and students are encouraged to develop their own questions and seek out transformative answers that can contribute to a healthier environment and a more just society. Funding is available through grants and other sources, ensuring that students are equipped with the resources they need to explore new questions while building their professional and academic acumen with hands-on experience.

DU alumni are currently pushing sustainability in partnership with cities and major corporations as well as through their own startups
