About Us

As an NWSS Center of Excellence, we support and work to expand the wastewater surveillance system throughout U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) regions 2, 7 and 8. Our territory includes CO, IA, KS, MO, MT, ND, NE, SD, UT, WY. We provide education and training from leading industry experts and offer consulting services to local public health agencies, state public health agencies, wastewater utilities and state public health laboratories.

Established by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in August 2022, the Colorado National Wastewater Surveillance System Center of Excellence serves as one of four national centers of excellence dedicated specifically to communicable disease surveillance using wastewater. A collaboration between the University of Denver and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, we are dedicated to wastewater surveillance, innovation and disease prevention.
