Colorado's Southern Coalfields
1915-1930

Following the strike of 1913-1914, the landscape of the coalfields changed. Miners moved back to the mines or out of the region. Managers redesigned the camps to create a perception of a more equitable community in the camps. The United Mine Workers bought the land that held the Ludlow strikers' colony and defined the site as a memorial to the sacrifice of those who died in the massacre.
