Procedures for Submitting Concerns or Complaints

The Department of Campus Safety (DCS) welcomes feedback to facilitate continuous improvement in DCS’s practices for recruitment and hiring, personnel development, training and responsiveness to the campus community. DCS has established procedures for investigating complaints against DCS and its employees.

An individual may submit a written or verbal report alleging misconduct by a member of DCS and/or expressing dissatisfaction regarding DCS’s policies and procedures (a Complaint). An individual may submit a Complaint in person, by phone, via email, or through the DCS website. DCS will accept and investigate all Complaints, including anonymous Complaints, made against a DCS employee or DCS itself.

With the exception of anonymous Complaints, the party submitting the Complaint must include the name, address, and phone number of the complainant; the name of the DCS employee who is the subject of the Complaint, and a statement of the Complaint with sufficient detail. DCS will evaluate an anonymous Complaint in the same manner as other Complaints; however, depending on the level of information available about the incident or the individuals involved, DCS may not be able to fully investigate an anonymous Complaint. DCS will also not be able to inform an anonymous complainant of the final determination of the Complaint.

DCS will strive to complete each investigation of a Complaint within thirty (30) days of DCS’s receipt of the Complaint. If the DCS investigator requires additional time to complete the investigation, the investigator will request an extension from the Chief of Campus Safety.

DCS will notify an identified complainant in writing when DCS has received the Complaint for processing. DCS will provide an identified complainant with periodic updates, including notice if an extension is granted.  When DCS has completed the investigation, DCS will inform an identified complainant of the final determination.

To file a Complaint, please use this Department of Campus Safety Complaints Form. You may also submit a Complaint in person or by mail to:
