How to Register to Vote in Colorado

In Colorado, you can easily register to vote online with the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number, or your Colorado ID. Visit Go Vote Colorado to register to vote or check/update your voter registration, including your address. You can also register in person at your County Election office, by mail, or at a Colorado DMV.

Colorado Requirements: You must be a U. S. Citizen, at least 16 years of age and live in Colorado for at least 1 day to register. (You must be at least 18 years of age by Election Day to actually cast a ballot.)

Out of State Students: If you are registered in another state, you can request an absentee ballot from your home state or you can change your registration to vote in Colorado. If voting elsewhere, it is important to 1) be aware of your home state deadlines, 2) understand absentee voting, and possibly update your address

How to Vote at DU

All eligible Colorado registered voters automatically receive a ballot in the mail a few weeks before an election - this makes voting really easy! You can send your ballot in by mail, ballot drop-box, or at an in-person voting center. Here are some helpful tips:

  • The closest ballot drop box for DU students is right on campus! Stop by the Ritchie Center roundabout on Buchtel Blvd and drop your ballot here during an election period.
  • Watch for information on campus about a temporary voter service center on the DU campus during election periods - in past years it has been easy to stop by Dimond Family Residential Village to drop your ballot or ask questions of poll workers.
  • This map shows ballot drop-off boxes, in-person vote centers, and mobile vote centers across Denver, available during an election period.

*Note* If you are voting out of state, please do not drop your absentee ballot in a Colorado ballot box - it will not be delivered to your state! Follow instructions from your state to mail your ballot using the United States Postal Services. USPS locations are here.

Before & After Voting

Do Your Research

Make sure you do your research before you vote on the topics and candidates. There are many important ballot measures and races outside of high-profile presidential elections. Check your voter registration, make a plan to vote, and research every candidate and measure on your ballot at BallotReady before you head to the polls.

Track Your Ballot

If you voted using a mail-in or absentee ballot, you can make sure that your ballot was counted by selecting your state on the Vote.org website.  The level of ballot tracking depends on state availability, however in Colorado you can register with Ballottrax to receive status alerts notifying you where your ballot is in the election process, from sent to counted!
