Announcement  •

Dear DU community members,

In recognition of Veterans Day, let us all find time to pause and reflect on the bravery and sacrifices of our country’s service members. To those who serve and have served: thank you, today and every day. For those we have lost: we recognize with gratitude and heavy hearts their heroism, its impact, and the reverberating impacts on their loved ones and communities.

The University has long been an institution where members of our armed forces—veterans, active-duty service members, and reservists—can seek and build community, receive an excellence education, and contribute unique perspectives and skills. I hope, together, we only build on this proud legacy.

Our celebration and support for service members extends beyond this day of recognition:

  • Currently, the University of Denver has approximately 500 military-affiliated students on campus.
  • We are ranked in the top 100 Best Colleges for Veterans by U.S. News & World Report, in no small part for our dedicated and robust Veterans & Military Resources. Thank you to all who make this work possible.
  • Through our recently expanded Yellow Ribbon Program, qualified veterans receive a tuition-free DU education, including all graduate programs.
  • Our Student Veteran Association holds our annual Hero Games (this year taking place just yesterday), which brings together veterans at DU and in the Denver community to raise money for activities and assistance, as well as build connections within the service member community.
  • Our annual Veteran Hockey Night celebrates service members and their families. Tickets for this year’s game on November 22 are already sold out, but this opportunity occurs each year, so hold space on your calendars for 2025!
  • A final thanks to the Sturm Center, for all the work they do supporting veteran mental health in the Front Range and the Rocky Mountain Veterans Advocacy Project at DU, which helps veterans with a broad range of legal issues.

Once again, thank you to current and former service members and their families in the DU community, whether students, faculty or staff. We are stronger through your connection to this institution.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Haefner
