The FBI has confirmed that the suspect who made threats to Denver area K-12 schools has been captured at the base of Mount Evans. The lockout status has been lifted and buildings will be opened shortly.

We understand this situation has been incredibly stressful for many members of our community and questions were posed regarding how decisions to remain open are made. Most importantly -- please know that at all times the safety of our students, faculty and staff is the highest priority for us.

Today’s decision was made after careful deliberation and conversation with law enforcement. We were also in conversation with other colleges and universities across the front range who remained open as well. Red Rocks Community College, Arapahoe Community College and parts of Front Range Community College made the decision to close today due to their immediate proximity to Columbine High School.  For precaution, we increased our presence of Campus Safety officers across campus, in addition to all buildings remaining only accessible with DU ID.
