Transitioning to Teams for Meetings
Dear campus community,
As was announced last month in the Council of the Deans and with the Associate Deans group, over the coming year the University of Denver is transitioning from Zoom to Microsoft Teams as its enterprise collaboration, meeting, and video conferencing platform.
This shift will be completed in early June 2027, including using Teams for video conferencing, remote learning, and virtual meeting collaboration. The Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL) and DU’s Information Technology Division (IT) will provide several resources that you can start leveraging now to support you through this transition to Teams.
The University will fully sunset Zoom on Friday, June 11, 2027.
To learn about project process, updates, and FAQs, please visit the Zoom to Teams transition website.
There is no immediate action required regarding your use of Zoom or Teams. Please watch your inbox in the coming months for additional updates, resources, and guidance related to the transition.
Thank you for your collaboration, flexibility, and commitment to supporting changes that will help us become stronger and more efficient. We appreciate your partnership as we navigate this change together.
How Collaboration Works Differently in Teams
You may notice a few key differences:
Teams is more closely integrated with Office 365, which includes tools such as OneDrive, Outlook , and other campus productivity tools. To best utilize Teams, you will need to use Outlook for scheduling and communication, if you are not already.
Recordings are stored in OneDrive or SharePoint rather than Zoom Cloud. However, soon Teams recordings will also be automatically stored in Kaltura (My Media and Media Gallery within Canvas and MediaSpace) just like your current Zoom recordings.
Settings to access transcripts and chats are different in Teams. Teams connects meeting chats, files, recordings, transcripts, and follow-up conversations in a single space, and provides access to individuals even if they did not attend a particular meeting occurrence.
