Dear Colleagues,

Chancellor Chopp and I value transparent and timely communication, and it is especially important during leadership transitions. In that spirit, I wanted to share with you my approach to the process of selecting an interim provost and executive vice chancellor, who will assume responsibilities on Monday, July 15.

As I consider what needs to happen to onboard the interim provost, I believe I must make a decision no later than Friday, May 3 in order to provide adequate time to smoothly transfer major projects and initiatives. This tight timeline does not allow for a formal process. However, I have already initiated a number of conversations with key stakeholders to understand the community’s expectations of the Office of the Provost during this interim period. To that end, I will meet with the Faculty of Color Association, the Staff of Color Association, the Council of Deans, the vice provosts, the Chancellor’s Cabinet, the Faculty Senate and the Staff Advisory Council. These conversations will be completed by early next week.

I encourage faculty and staff to share any thoughts you have regarding your expectations for the Office of the Provost during this interim period with any of these stakeholder groups or by writing to me directly at provost@du.edu.

The leadership team at DU remains strong. More importantly, the University is in excellent health, has a visionary direction with DU IMPACT 2025, and has tremendous momentum. Chancellor Chopp and I are committed to ensuring the transition is as seamless as possible during this interim period. We appreciate your patience and support as we move DU forward together.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Haefner

Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor
