Dear members of the DU community,

Please save the date for the 19th annual DU Diversity Summit scheduled for Jan. 21–23.

This summit is a time for us to come together and explore how higher education should engage, empower, celebrate, and honor our diverse and inclusive academic community. It’s an opportunity to explore issues of diversity, equity and inclusion in society broadly and to examine and reflect upon our own campus climate and culture.

The theme of the 2020 Diversity Summit builds off our 2019 summit and “The Power of We.” Specifically, we hope to encourage critical thought on how we get to a collective “we.” At the summit, we will also explore the tensions and anxiety many living in the U.S. feel, particularly in an election year, and we will harness the connective potential of our experiences, education, and personal realities.

Our dynamic community is made up of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and neighbors, as well as opinions, histories, futures and perspectives. Through our combined efforts, we can inspire reflection and action. Through skill-building workshops, challenging discussions and interactive lectures, we will advance our work to make DU a model of inclusivity, diversity and equity.

More details coming soon. Stay tuned!

Sincerely,

Jeremy Haefner, chancellor

Art Jones, interim vice chancellor for the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Laura Maresca, vice chancellor of Human Resources & Inclusive Community

Lili Rodriguez, vice chancellor of Campus Life & Inclusive Excellence
