Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce Dr. Karen Riley has agreed to serve as Strategic Director of the Health Initiatives. Karen officially assumed the role on Oct. 1, 2019.

I am truly grateful that Karen has agreed to serve the university in this capacity in addition to her duties as dean for Morgridge College of Education (MCE). Throughout her career, Karen has received grants from the NIH, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Novartis Pharmaceuticals, a major pharmaceutical company. Her strengths in biopharma technologies and mental health will serve her well in this role. She has demonstrated an ability to nurture and grow a nationally respected research enterprise both in her lab as well as in the MCE.

Karen will be charged with nurturing the health initiative, a critical component of the University’s signature research programs, through developing a compelling narrative and unifying themes around our current places of excellence. She will also facilitate the exploration of exciting program innovations at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, foster collaborative efforts, and build support from deans and key faculty stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of DU’s health initiative.

As we have moved forward with a number of initiatives on campus, it became clear from community feedback we needed an individual leveraging past experiences in the health space who could reach across the entire campus.

Please join me in welcoming Karen to this new role and help us reach the campus goals that are so close to a success point.

Best regards,

Corinne
