The University of Denver has moved up to No. 3 in the country for undergraduate participation in the study abroad program. The 2016 ranking is a slight improvement from last year when the University ranked 4th.

The rankings, released by Open Doors, highlights the top 40 doctorate-granting universities. DU’s student participation rate in study abroad increased this year to 67.9 percent, up from 65.6 percent the previous year.

“We are pleased to remain as top-rated in the U.S. for our percentage of undergraduates who participate in study abroad,” says Michelle Rembolt, assistant director of the Office of International Education.

The United Kingdom, Spain and Australia continue to be the top destinations for DU students. The University of Glasgow (Scotland), University of Otago (New Zealand) and Nebrija University (Spain) are the institutions with the largest number of DU students.

“We see that DU students gain new world perspectives, new academic and professional skills, and often a new personal passion and understanding of global relationships and events while studying abroad,” Rembolt says. “Our ranking is certainly a gratifying recognition of DU’s commitment to its students, and it is just one of the facets of internationalization on DU’s campus.”

The Office of Internationalization includes four main units. The Office of International Education offers advising and support for undergraduate study abroad at over 150 DU partner programs around the world. The Office of International Student and Scholar Services provides orientation for international students and immigration advising. The English Language Center prepares international students for the skills necessary to be successful at DU. And the Center for World Languages and Cultures enhances students’ knowledge of languages and cultures.
