Several programs seek support on the global day of giving

Announcement  •
Giving Tuesday

The charitable season of giving unofficially kicks off today, Nov. 27, with #GivingTuesday. Now entering its seventh year, the global day of giving encourages people to share time, a gift, or make a donation to help their local communities. Last year, Giving Tuesday activities were held in nearly 100 different countries worldwide. The University of Denver is marking the day with several crowdfunding projects that have a direct impact on students and their DU experience.

DU Food Pantry

Nationally, approximately 36 percent of students struggle with food insecurity while in college. There is a similar need at the University of Denver. The DU Food Pantry, which is operated through the Center for Sustainability, serves about 20 students per week. Donations made to this cause will help stock the shelves with nutritious options for students.

Scholarships

Donating to a University of Denver scholarship fund gives more students the opportunity to pursue their passions. The scholarships provide financial help to students who otherwise might not be able to attend DU. Donations can be made to one of the 15 unit-based scholarship funds or the University’s overall scholarship fund.

Health & Counseling

Many students face financial barriers when it comes to pursuing the health and counseling services they need while in college. Giving to this cause will provide support to DU’s Health and Counseling Center’s Access Fund, which addresses the financial gap that some students face when seeking help.

Athletics

Donating to this cause directly aids the Athletics Excellence Fund, which supports all of Athletics. Gifts also can be made to any of the 17 Division I varsity sports. Donors help each sports program offset the costs of team travel, student support services, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and uniforms and equipment.

Public Service at Denver Law

Each year, roughly 400 Denver Law students spend more than 115,000 hours working alongside lawyers introducing them to the legal profession. A group of these students selects unpaid placements within organizations that promote the public good and help others. Donating to this cause will help fund summer externships for Denver Law students.

In addition to these five causes, there are more than a dozen programs and funds seeking support. Please click here to learn about more impactful causes at the University of Denver for #GivingTuesday.
