Celebrate our National Champs Tomorrow Night at 6 p.m. at Magness Arena
Dear DU community members,
Our amazing men’s ice hockey team captured yet another NCAA Division 1 Ice Hockey Championship Saturday night by defeating Minnesota State, securing a 5-1 victory! While many of you were watching from your homes or in nearby establishments, hundreds of our students came together in the Community Commons to witness both our sudden death overtime win in Boston against the University of Michigan during the Frozen Four semifinals on Thursday and then again for Saturday’s amazing championship win.
With Saturday’s win, DU Hockey has taken home nine NCAA Division 1 tournament trophies, tying us with Michigan for the most national championship ice hockey wins in collegiate history. I commend and thank Head Coach David Carle whose been so steadily and successfully coaching the team over the past four years. And I’m so proud of our students for their performance in and out of the arena. In addition to their stellar performance with the puck, our student-athletes achieve academically above the national average and graduate at a rate above 90 percent.
Whether you missed the game or were able to watch every minute, I hope you enjoy these NCAA game highlights, which feature the incredible third period that helped us clinch the title! Tomorrow at 6 p.m., the entire community is invited to a celebration party in Magness Arena (If you aren't able to attend, the event will be livestreamed at DenverPioneers.com/watch.)
I hope you join your colleagues and peers to celebrate the Pios' great victory! I look forward to seeing you join in the fun as we congratulate our team for their spectacular championship season.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Haefner
Chancellor
