Berwind Industry

The Rockefeller Plan may have provided many social services, but the mine created the community. With the loss of profitable coal production, the mine and camp closed in 1928. Colorado Fuel and Iron moved renters out of the housing and removed and resold any useable materials and equipment. Miners and their families moved onto the next mine or another occupation in a different town. Berwind became another example of the boom-bust cycle of the American West.
