There is little historic or photographic evidence of the appearance or condition of the north end of the colony. The major focus of the colony was located in the center or along Front Street in the south end. These areas were more public. The public aspect of the areas to the south meant that the public spaces and services, such as the doctors' tent were located to show the public the stability and order offered by the union in the tent colony. The north of the colony was more residential as the these tents were primarily for household living spaces. The privacy accorded to such households meant there was little public recognition of the north section of the strikers' colony.
