Housing

Colorado Fuel and Iron Co.'s designs for company housing were for the most part uniform. There were three main designs. The 4-room cottage design was the most common. The 4-room cottage style pictured here contained 2 small rooms (12 ft x 12 ft [3.6m x 3.6m]-12.96m2), 2 large rooms (16 ft x 12 ft [4.9m x3.6m]17.64m2), and a central chimney. Company engineers designed the houses, while company employees built the houses. This allowed owners complete control over the deign and construction of housing in the coal camps.
