Information Technology currently supports or will soon support many different kinds of authenticated access to the University of Denver's data network. Among them are:
- direct connectivity for on-campus computers
- wireless connectivity for on-campus computers
- proxied connectivity for off-campus connections to the DU network
- dial-up modem access for off-campus connections to the DU network
- e-mail accounts
- portal accounts
- MySite Web Server Accounts (including the ability to post personal web pages)
- Canvas accounts
These services are provided to a variety of constituencies including:
- pre-college students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12
- undergraduate students
- graduate students
- employees
- retired employees
For a variety of practical reasons, all services are not provided to all constituencies. This web page explains how constituences are defined and how changes are handled as individuals move from one consituency to another.
Constituencies
Active Students
Active students must have an active status in the Banner administrative system. In addition they must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- enrollment in a class in the current term
- pre-registration for a class in a future term
- certification for graduate enrollment
- completion of a class in the previous 200 days
Active Employees
Active employees are defined by Human Resources. This requires that employees have an active status in the Banner administrative system. Departments may pre-activate the Banner status for incoming employees by submitting appropriate paperwork to Payroll. Faculty and adjunct faculty are allowed to keep services for 90 days after the termination date recorded in the Banner system. Staff are allowed to keep services for 30 days after the termination date recorded in the Banner system.
Retired Employees
Retired employees are defined by Human Resources.
Services
Use of services provided through the University of Denver's data network is subject to the University of Denver Computer and Network Acceptable Use Policy.
The University of Denver reserves the right to prevent network access that may threaten the integrity of networks, systems or data or may abuse the rights or privacy of individuals or the University itself.
Network access is a privilege. Abuse of this privilege may result in the loss of access to all or part of these services.
Direct Connections to the Campus Network
This service is available to registered computers. Owners of registered computers must be active students or employees.
Wireless Connections to the Campus Network
This service will soon be available to registered computers. Owners of registered computers must be active students or employees.
Proxied Connections to the Campus Network
Proxied connections to the campus networks will soon allow many special services available through the campus network to be accessed from off-campus Internet connections.
This service will be available to active students, active employees and retired employees. Warnings will be sent to University of Denver e-mail accounts 90 days before the service is discontinued because of a change in constituency status.
Dial-up Modem Connections to the Campus Network
This service is available to active students, active employees, and retired employees. Warnings will be sent to University of Denver e-mail accounts 90 days before the service is discontinued because of a change in constituency status.
E-mail Accounts
This service is available to active students, active employees, and retired employees. Warnings will be sent to University of Denver e-mail accounts 90 days before the service is discontinued because of a change in constituency status.
MySite Web Server Accounts
This service is available to active students, active employees, and retired employees. Warnings will be sent to University of Denver e-mail accounts 90 days before the service is discontinued because of a change in constituency status.
Canvas Accounts
This service is available to active students, active employees, and retired employees. Warnings will be sent to University of Denver e-mail accounts 90 days before the service is discontinued because of a change in constituency status.
Special Services for Alumni
Authenticated services for alumni are available through http://www.alumni.du.edu/.
