Sabbath Queen - Film screening at the 47th Denver Film Festival

Saturday, November 2, 7:30 PM

Sie Film Center | 2510 E Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80206

Join CJS at the 47th Denver Film Festival for a screening of the feature documentary Sabbath Queen. Filmed over 21 years, Sabbath Queen follows Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie's epic journey as the dynastic heir of 38 generations of Orthodox rabbis. He is torn between rejecting and embracing his destiny and becomes a drag-queen rebel, a queer bio-dad and the founder of Lab/Shul—an everybody-friendly, God-optional, artist-driven, pop-up experimental congregation.

Sabbath Queen joins Amichai on a lifelong quest to creatively and radically reinvent religion and ritual, while interrogating what it means to be Jewish in the 21st century.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with director Sandi DuBowski, and a reception in the Henderson-Withey Lounge.

The Center for Judaic Studies has a limited number of tickets available for DU students, faculty, and staff. Email cjs@du.edu to reserve!
