OSHA Required Training

Listed below is a description of OSHA required training, including the required audience. Training provides employees information on how to recognize and control associated chemical hazards. • Asbestos Awareness – 29 CFR 1910.1001

  Regulations Link: Asbestos Awareness

  This training is required for custodial, maintenance and other job titles in which asbestos-containing materials (ACM) are contacted but not disturbed. Annual two-hour training is required.

• Bloodborne Pathogens – 29 CFR 1910.1030

  Regulations Link: Bloodborne Pathogens

  This training is required for employees who may come into contact with blood or Other Potential Infectious Materials. Annual training is required.

• Confined Space – 29 CFR 1910.146

  Regulations Link: Confined Space

  Training is required for employees who may enter a confined space or supervisors of personnel who enter a confined space. Personnel must complete four-hour classroom training and an on-site training session using air monitoring and retrieval equipment. To maintain certification for confined space entry, personnel must attend training annually or participate at least once a year in a confined space entry.

• Emergency Response – 29 CFR 1910.120

  Regulations Link: Emergency Response

  Training is for employees likely to witness or discover a hazardous substance release and initiate the emergency response. Training includes recognition of the presence of hazardous materials in an emergency, the associated risks and the appropriate response to initiate an emergency response. This is a one-time four-hour classroom training session.

• Fall Protection - 29 CFR 1926.503

  Regulations Link: Fall Protection

  This training is for each employee who might be exposed to fall hazards. The program shall enable each employee to recognize the hazards of falling and shall train each employee in the procedures to be followed in order to minimize these hazards. Training frequency - one-time basis.

• Fire Extinguishers - 29 CFR 1910.157

  Regulations Link: Fire Extinguishers

  Employer must provide training to familiarize employees with the general principles of fire extinguisher use and the associated hazards.

• Fire Hazards - 29 CFR 1910.38

  Regulations Link: Emergency Action Plan

  Employer shall review with each employee upon initial assignment those parts of the fire prevention plan which the employee must know to protect the employee in the event of an emergency. Training frequency - annual.

• Hazard Communication (OSHA Hazcom) - 29 CFR 1910.1200

  This training is for individuals who use hazardous chemicals in the workplace. Training provides employees information on how to recognize and control associated chemical hazards. Training frequency - initial and whenever workplace conditions change.

• Hot Work - 29 CFR 1910.119(k)

  This training is for individuals who perform work involving hot work, including soldering, torching and welding. Training provides for proper hot work procedures and the use of permit system. Training frequency - one-time basis.

• Laboratory Safety - 29 CFR 1910.1450

  Upon initial assignment, workers must be trained on hazardous chemicals, the methods and observation that may be used to detect the presence and release of hazardous chemicals and specific procedures that have been implemented to protect employees from exposures. Training frequency - annual.

• Ladder Safety - 29 CFR 1926.1053

  Training enables each employee to recognize hazards related to ladders and stairways and to use proper procedures to minimize these hazards. Training frequency - one-time basis.

• Lockout/Tagout - 29 CFR 1910.147

  Training in the recognition of hazardous energy sources, the methods and means for energy isolation and control and the required documentation. Training frequency - one-time basis.

• Respiratory Protection - 29 CFR 1910.134

  Regulations Link: Respiratory Protection

  Training is required for employees required to wear a respirator. Note: some training information is required for voluntary use. Training includes instruction on why the respirator is necessary, the proper use and maintenance, and the limitations and capabilities of the respirator. Annual training is required.

• Personal Protective Equipment - 29 CFR 1910.132

  Training is for any employee whose work requires them to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, hard hat, gloves, etc. Training provides instruction on the proper use and the limitations of PPE. Training frequency - one-time basis.

• Hearing Protection - 29 CFR 1910.95

  Regulations Link: Hearing Protection

  Training is required for personnel whose noise exposure exceeds one-half the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL). Training provides instruction on the effects of noise on hearing, the purpose of hearing protectors, the purpose of audiometric testing. Annual training and audiometric testing required.

• Forklifts - 29 CFR 1910.178

  Training provides instruction on the proper operation of a Forklift (aka a "Powered Industrial Truck" PIT).
