Fear not! The Four Dimensions themselves are not changing. They are still intellect, character, well-being, and careers and lives of purpose.
What is changing is how they are framed and phrased. We are now utilizing four “d” verbs to invite our community members to make the Four Dimensions their own: deepen intellect, develop well-being, discover character, and design careers and lives of purpose.
We’ve made this change for two reasons. First, over the last few years, community members have asked us repeatedly why the Four Dimensions do not begin with the letter “d.” It was something that generated a great deal of confusion in some spaces.
Second, we have engaged students in ongoing conversation regarding what would help them better understand what the Four-Dimensional (4D) Experience is and how it informs their educational experience. Students have told us that the active “d” verbs offer a more powerful invitation to create their own 4D Experience. It signals that the 4D Experience is not just something that happens to you; it’s something that you play a critical role in creating for yourself, based on your individual interests and goals.
Deepen intellect, develop well-being, discover character, and design careers and lives of purpose, of course!
