The Spring 2026 issue celebrates the DU hockey team’s record-setting 11th national championship. We look back on a season that didn’t seem destined for greatness at first, during a seven-game winless streak in December and January—but thanks to consistent time on home ice, a healthy lineup, and some standout playing from goalie Johnny Hicks, the Pioneers rode a 14-game winning streak into the Frozen Four and ultimately took home the trophy.

We also look at DU’s upcoming move from the Summit League to the West Coast Conference—a major step forward in athletics and academics alike. At the start of the 2026-27 academic year, nine athletics programs are joining the WCC, which is home to private universities in California, Oregon, and Washington and some of the best mid-major sports programs in the country.

In addition, we take a visual tour through American history with a DU professor and map expert. We explore the Colorado Water Fellows Program within the Sturm College of Law, which is shaping the future of water law in the West. We learn what it takes to put on the Lamont School of Music’s annual opera, talk to DU faculty who are crossing borders, and hear about promising research into treatments for neurodegenerative diseases. And there’s much more, too!
