Departments/FacultyWoodwind FacultyStudents in the Woodwind Program at the Lamont School of Music may select the Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Music, or Master of Arts in Music degrees. In conjunction with the University of Denver's Daniels School of Business, Lamont offers the 3/2 integrated Bachelor's/Master's degree program that enables a student to complete both an undergraduate degree in music and a Master of Business Administration degree in five years. Musicians interested in contemporary music styles may also pursue the Jazz Studies and Commercial Music Program.

Arthur Bouton Art Bouton, Associate Professor of Saxophone and Chair of the Woodwind Department at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music, is first call saxophonist and woodwind performer throughout the Western U.S. He has extensive performance experience on all saxophones, flutes, clarinets, and bassoon, as well as the Akai Electronic Wind Instrument. Art is a founding member of the Lamont Jazz Faculty group The Climb and is featured on many of their recordings. He plays lead alto and flute for the Ninth and Lincoln Orchestra and the Wil Swindler Elevenet, contemporary ensembles specializing in new music for jazz ensembles. Mr. Bouton regularly performs with the Colorado Symphony, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, and is a member of the pit orchestra at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Mr. Bouton has studied saxophone with Douglas Masek, Roger Greenberg, and Vince Gnojek. Art performs as guest soloist and clinician at high schools and colleges throughout the U.S. and has served on the faculty of the Yellowstone Jazz Camp, Mile High Jazz Camp, the Telluride Jazz Camp, and Clark Terry Great Plains Jazz Camp. Art can be heard playing lead alto on recordings of New Music for Jazz Ensemble by Kendor Music.
Chad Cognata Chad Cognata
joined the Colorado Symphony as Principal Bassoon in 1991. He has
performed as a solist with the CSO on several occasions, including performances
of concertos by Mozart and Vivaldi. Since 1996, Mr. Cognata has
held the position of Principal Bassoon with the Cabrillo Music Festival,
a summer festival in Santa Cruz, California, dedicated to contemporary
orchestral music. He has participated in the Aspen Music Festival,
where he served as Principal Bassoon of the Aspen Festival Orchestra.
He has also performed with the symphonies of Pittsburgh and Nashville.
Pamela
Endsley Pamela Endsley
is the Instructor of Flute at the Lamont School of Music and the Principal
Flutist with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. At the age of eighteen
she was selected to appear as a soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
She subsequently studied with Bernard Goldberg, the Principal Flutist
of that orchestra, and received her degree in flute performance from Duquesne
University. Additional studies were conducted with Marcel Moyse
at the Marlboro Festival.
Lisa
Martin Lisa Martin is Adjunct Instructor of Oboe at the Lamont School of Music and is currently Principal Oboe of Central City Opera and the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, Ms. Martin has played Principal Oboe with the Cheyenne Symphony, the Colorado Ballet and the Denver Municipal Band. During the 2000-2001 Season, Ms. Martin played Assistant Principal/second oboe with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Other notable performances include solo performances at Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center with the Alexander Schneider String Seminar. Ms. Martin has previously served on the woodwind faculties at the University of Northern Colorado , the Colorado State University Summer Music Camp and the Eastman School of Music New Horizons Summer Music Program. Ms. Martin received her Bachelors Degree in Oboe Performance at the Eastman School of Music and her Masters Degree in Oboe Performance and Literature from the University of Northern Colorado.
Andrew Stevens Andy Stevens, Denver native and clarinetist with the Colorado Symphony, first studied the clarinet with his father Jack Stevens, long time Denver Public Schools music teacher and Director of the Denver Youth Musicians. He continued his training with Richard Joiner, past principal clarinet with the Denver Symphony and Donald Ambler, former bass clarinetist of the Denver/Colorado Symphony. As a Junior in high school, Andy won the International Clarinet Competition, one year after placing second in the same contest. He then went on to study clarinet with Stanley Hasty and bass clarinet with William Osseck at the Eastman School of Music. Upon graduating from Eastman, Mt. Stevens participated in the Festival of Two Worlds in Charleston, S.C. and Spoleto, Italy, before returning to Denver where he held positions in the Denver Chamber and Colorado Ballet Orchestras. He also served as principal clarinet with the Central City Opera Orchestra for most of his twenty-year tenure with that organization. He has recently performed with the Rochester Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, Colorado Chamber Players, and the Colorado Music Festival. As a soloist he has performed with the Rocky Mountain Symphony, Colorado Wind Ensemble, and with the Denver Municipal Band, one of the oldest musical organizations in the country. He has taught clarinet at Metropolitan State College, the University of Colorado at Denver, Loretto Heights College, Colorado Academy and the Denver School of the Arts in addition to maintaining a studio at home. He also has an affinity for refacing and repair of woodwind mouthpieces. His other interests include fly fishing, camping with his wife and children, and restoration of his great-grandparents’ 1920’s home near Estes Park.
