The Jazz and Commercial Music Program

Students in the Jazz Studies and Commercial Music Program at the Lamont School of Music may select the Bachelor of Music with specializations in Performance or Composition and Arranging in Jazz Studies or Commercial Music, and specialization in Technology in Commercial Music.

The Jazz Studies and Commercial Music Program at the Lamont School of Music provides aspiring musicians with an environment in which they may achieve their professional goals. Lamont faculty have adapted ideas from the most successful jazz and commercial music programs in the world and added our own unique insights to forge a new type of degree program-one that is diversified, rigorous, and fun. As a result, our graduates have the performance, composition, business, and musical skills, and the experience they need to work as professional musicians.

Training
We offer Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Master of Arts degrees in Jazz and Commercial Music Studies. Students can specialize in performance, composition, or technology.

Music Technology

Jazz and Commercial Music students in the Music Technology emphasis undergo a rigorous three year program that covers music synthesis, multitrack studio recording, live concert recording, sound reinforcement, and sound for picture.  These courses take place in the state of the art Lamont Recording Studio and Electronic Music Studio.
Students receive extensive hands on training using Pro Tools HD,
Digital Performer, Logic Audio, Max/MSP, and learn large and small
format analog and digital audio consoles.  This program prepares the student for careers such as recording engineer, music producer, or recording artist.
