Departments/FacultyEnsembles and DirectorsThe Lamont School of Music takes pride in the high quality of our student performances. Whether students are interested in classical, jazz, or commercial music they are involved in a wide variety of performance experiences. Each undergraduate performs one junior and one senior recital and participates in a performance class in his or her major area. All students are invited to participate in any of the school's performance groups. Lamont Symphony Orchestra

Lamont Jazz Orchestra
Malcolm Lynn Baker Malcolm Lynn Baker, Associate Professor and Director of the Jazz Studies and Commercial Music Program. Mr. Baker has taught at Indiana University and Carleton College and is co-author of MiBAC Jazz Improvisation Software for Macintosh computers. Baker is the Artistic Director of the Creative Music Works Orchestra, a professional repertoire jazz ensemble, and has an active career as solo artists, composer, and clinician. He recently won a Co-Visions Grant from the Colorado Council on the Arts for his compositions combining improvisation with computer technology. Mr. Baker holds a bachelor's degree from Western Oregon State College and a master's degree in saxophone performance from the University of Oregon.
Lamont Opera Theatre
Kenneth Cox Performing musicals and operas gives a student first- hand experience in all aspects of a professional theatre career. The Lamont School of Music presents fully staged operas and musical productions each year, so students receive a broad-based education in vocal and theatre performance. Not only do students perform, they are also involved in stage production, including set design, costuming, make-up, and set construction. Recent Lamont productions include Carmen, Marriage of Figaro, Madame Butterfly, Cabaret, Don Giovanni, Sweeny Todd, Into the Woods and Candide. The opera program is directed by Kenneth Cox, who is also the Chair of the Voice Department.
Choral Studies

and the Lamont Women's Chorus l Choral Studies, Director The Lamont Chorale is a select mixed choir of 40 members committed to performing choral music at their highest artistic level. Students perform a wide variety of repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to the avant-garde. As representatives of the choral department and the school of music, the Lamont Chorale performs in the community and has a thirty-year tradition of a weekend retreat and performance in beautiful Cuchara, Colorado. In addition to three full concerts a year, the Chorale performs large works with the Lamont Symphony Orchestra and the Lamont Wind Ensemble.
