Steve Traylor

Biography

 

Steve Traylor is a professional musician who teaches and performs bass trombone, tuba, and tenor trombone in Denver, Colorado. He grew up in Burlington, Kansas, and graduated from Emporia State University with a BME in Music Education. After teaching in Kansas, he moved to Colorado, eventually attending the University of Denver and earning an MBA with a marketing emphasis and an MM in Bass Trombone Performance. Mr. Traylor is the director of the Pioneer Pep Band at the University of Denver, low brass instructor at the Boulder Arts Academy, and band director at Boulder Valley Schools.

Mr. Traylor has worked extensively as a freelance musician for many years. Some of his classical experiences include performances with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Ballet, Central City Opera, Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, Denver Municipal Band, and the Rome Festival Orchestra in Italy. He has or currently performs with several commercial groups such as Park Avenue , Full House, Neophonic Jazz Orchestra, Queen City Jazz Band, Dixieland Express, and the Fat City Mardi Gras Band. Some of these groups have entertained crowds of thousands at local sporting events such as the Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Crush, and the Colorado Rockies. Through his endeavors, Mr. Traylor has shared the stage with some of the best in the business including Mel Torme, Frankie Valli, Four Tops, Kenny Rogers, Crystal Gayle, Bob Hope, Steve Allen, Harry Connick, Dianne Reeves, and Clark Terry.

Steve Traylor's teaching credentials are as impressive as his performance resume. He has taught in public and private schools for fourteen years, including the direction of his own MUSE Band Program. Mr. Traylor has also been a clinician and/or guest conductor at Colorado State University, Emporia State University, Hutchinson Community College, Northeast Regional Honor Band, I-70 Regional Honor Band, Mile High Jazz Camp and numerous high schools and middle schools. As a dedicated educator and musician, he is a member of the American Federation of Musicians, International Association of Jazz Educators and the International Trombone Association.

In addition to his musician and teaching experience, Mr. Traylor has extensive experience in the retail music industry. As co-owner & president of Innova Brass, Inc., he is in charge of marketing, sales, and business strategies, including the development and design of the patented TuBone® and BoneZilla® low brass instruments. Prior to his position at Innova Brass, Inc., Mr. Traylor served in the capacities of music retail store manager and school music sales consultant.
