Biography

Originally from Louisville, KY,Tom Ball grew up in Aurora, CO. and graduated from Overland HS. Tom Ball earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone Performance from Berklee College of Music 91', and a Master of Music degree in Trombone Performance from the University of Colorado 98'. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Arts degree in Trombone Performance/Pedagogy with a secondary emphasis in Jazz Pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado. He has been a freelance trombonist and euphoniumist since 1990, living and working in Miami, Fl., Boston, MA., New York, NY. Currently, Mr. Ball is an active member of the Denver Front Range performing and recording scene and has continually maintained a private teaching studio since returning to Colorado in 1996. He was a visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Adams State College 2003-04, and has taught  for the jazz programs of both the University of Colorado Boulder and the University of Northern Colorado. In addition to teaching at Lamont, Mr. Ball currently teaches music for Denver Public Schools.

Mr. Ball is currently trombonist and musical director of Onda, a busy Latin Jazz band, lead trombonist with the Ninth and Lincoln Orchestra, and a member of Wil Swindler's Elevenet. . He appears on more than 10 CD releases and has toured the entire North American continent as a performer, including every state in the continental U.S with several national tours of Broadway shows. He has performed with many groups and artists including Jon Sass, Bob Stewart, Rashid Ali, Ravi Coltrane, David Murray, George Garzone, Manhattan Transfer, The Jimmy Dorsey Band, the Tommy Dorsey Band, Conrad Herwig, Eddie Daniels, Brian Lynch, Red Holloway, and Dave and Don Grusin . He has performed at the Rocky Mountain Tuba Euphonium Conferences, the International Tuba Euphonium Conference, the New York Brass Conference, and the Association for Jazz Education. Mr. Ball has performed at prestigious events and locations including the Blue Note Jazz Club in NYC, Red Rocks Amphitheater, Telluride Jazz Festival and the Kansas City Jazz and Blues Festival. Mr Ball has several arrangements published with UNC Jazz Press.
