Biography
Dave Hanson,
instructor of Jazz and Commercial Music Composition and Arranging at the
Lamont School of Music, has written for the Boston Pops, Steve Houghton,
Paul Winter, Marvin Stamm, Rhonda Larson, and many others.
After studying
with Ray Wright and Manny Albam at the Eastman Arranger's Labs he was
awarded the prestigious Duke Ellington Scholarship award, and also was
the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant in Jazz Composition.
His arrangements
for orchestra have been performed by the Pittsburgh Symphony, Utah Symphony,
Houston Symphony, St. Louis Symphony as well as the Boston Pops. He stays
active as a composer for commercials and films, having written for clients
such as Dairy Queen, ReMax, Grease Monkey and the Colorado Lottery.
As a jazz pianist
he performed the Duke Ellington “role” in the Colorado Symphony Orchestra's
performance of Ellington's “Music from the Sacred Concerts”, and he has
performed as a member of the Paul Winter Consort. His music is published
by Kendor Music, Denver Brass publications and Really Good Music.
