Departmental Honors are now called "Distinction in the Major." In order to graduate with distinction, majors must meet the following criteria. They and their faculty advisor should advise the Coordinator of the Academic Program of their intent no later than winter quarter of the senior year.
(Please note that failure to meet any of the deadlines listed below may jeopardize the student's ability to graduate with department honors.)
Timeline for all SAAH Majorr:
Fall
- Students must declare their intention to pursue distinction within their major by September 30 in fall quarter of their senior year, using the “Application for Distinction in the Major” available in the art office.
- Students will also inform their advisor of their intention to pursue distinction and will obtain permission from a faculty member to work with him/her on the project or paper. Advisor’s signature is required on the application.
- By the end of fall quarter, students seeking distinction must have met with their faculty mentor to finalize their project plan and set up a schedule for its completion. Pre-art-conservation majors must submit a nomination letter from a conservator.
Interm
- Work on the project/paper will normally continue through the interterm break.
Winter
- January 10 – For those writing art history papers, the first draft is due.
- End of Winter Quarter – For those writing art history papers, the final draft is due.
Spring
- Faculties meet to consider the applications, performance during senior year, and projects/papers for Distinction in the Major. Students will be informed of decisions at the appropriate time thereafter, depending on their project/paper schedule.
